How we verify farms
We confirm that every farm listed on Silioa is real, reachable, and Canadian. Here's exactly what we check — and what we don't.
What "verified" means
Before a farm appears on Silioa, we confirm the following:
- Real contact information — the farm's phone number and/or email actually work. We test them.
- Working website — if a farm lists a website, we check that it loads and belongs to the farm.
- Canadian location — the farm operates in Canada and lists a real city or region.
- Direct-to-consumer sales — the farm sells directly to consumers (not wholesale-only or restaurant-only).
- Real products — the products listed (beef, pork, eggs, etc.) are things the farm actually sells.
What "verified" doesn't mean
We want to be honest about what we can and can't guarantee:
- We don't inspect farms. We don't visit farms, audit their operations, or verify animal welfare practices in person.
- We don't certify food safety. We don't test products, inspect processing facilities, or guarantee compliance with health regulations.
- Practices are self-reported. Claims like "grass-fed," "organic," or "pasture-raised" are provided by the farm. We don't independently verify them.
- We don't endorse farms. A listing on Silioa is not a recommendation. It means the farm is real and reachable — not that we've vetted their methods.
How reviews fit in
Customer reviews are an important part of trust on Silioa. Reviews are submitted by real customers and moderated by us before publishing. We remove reviews that are spam, abusive, off-topic, or potentially false.
However, we can't verify that every reviewer actually purchased from the farm. Reviews reflect personal experiences and opinions — they are not guarantees.
Reporting incorrect information
If you spot incorrect information on a farm listing — wrong products, outdated contact details, or a farm that has closed — please let us know. We'll investigate and update or remove the listing.
What happens if a farm is reported
If we receive credible reports that a farm listing is inaccurate, a farm has closed, or contact information no longer works, we will:
- Attempt to contact the farm to verify.
- Update the listing with correct information, or
- Remove the listing if the farm is unreachable or closed.
Our commitment
We do our best to keep listings accurate, but no directory is perfect. We rely on farmers to keep their information current and on the community to flag issues. If you see something that doesn't look right, tell us.
